Antigen tests are immunoassays that detect the presence of a specific viral antigen, which implies current viral infection. Antigen tests for SARS-CoV-2 are generally less sensitive than real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and other nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs) for detecting the presence of viral nucleic acid. A positive Antigen test meant that, YES, you most likely have an active infection. Especially if accompanied with symptoms. Please take proper measures, quarantine and await the PCR confirmatory results. This type of assessment requires a medical evaluation by your provider. Talk to your provider for more specific information. Be sure to ask questions if you don’t understand what the results mean and what the test is able to detect.

A negative antigen test result means that you probably do NOT have a current infection but will need a viral PCR test to confirm due to the chance of having a false negative.
